Garden
Process
Deconstructed flower bouquet from my beloved one. photography, 2017.
In 2017 winter I started to work on the topic of gardens. To me it is a natural space that is constructed by human beings, a secure place that one should take care of and cultivate for all the plants to grow and flourish.
In my project I explored the long-standing female, Lithuanian tradition to grow a flower garden in their parents' home as a symbol of being youthful, unmarried and a virgin. The concept of femininity is very pertinent here.
I cultivated my own transferrable flower garden in my painting studio in small boxes and greenhouses. I grew the traditional flowers that young Lithuanian girls used to grow in their flower gardens. Over centuries there were many folk songs created about those flowers. This was an important point for me- the idea of growing the "traditional culture".
The act of protecting, guarding and taking care of the garden became metaphorical to me. It is a metaphor of the process of `growing‘ the artwork which takes its time.
